Hundred and Four: Spring Training

It is hard to believe that it is that time of year again for baseball! Being in Alaska I do not get year ‐ around baseball or slow pitch up here.

On my bucket list, I have had spring training, but never could make it happen‐ Until this year! I flew on the red eye from ANC to LAX and was upgraded to the first class‐ first time ever! Was such an unexpected surprise. Upon arrival in LAX, I was able to pick up the rental car that I would then embark on this journey with Merideth.

As we make our way to Arizona, I could not get enough of the view. So many people do not see beauty in the desert, but it is so breath taking. The colors are so bold. As the sun does finally disappear the stars are so bright and glisten amongst the black back drop. No light pollution, something that everyone should experience.

Our first day in Arizona we stopped and had breakfast at a cute little spot in Prescott called Sue Ann’s Apple Pan. When Merideth and I walked in, it was just like walking into the bar on Cheers. Everyone looked up wondering who was walking in and welcomed us as if we were regulars. It is such a great feeling.

We then made our way to Sedona and embarked on the Cathedral Trail hike. Made our way down to the creek first and the water was so crisp and cool. I Was moving pretty quickly too over the different colored rocks. It was so beautiful.

We then made our way up the trail and had a great view of Cathedral Rock the majority of the time and as we moved our way around it the feeling being so small

amongst some of God’s beautiful creation. A feeling that I have so often up here in Alaska. It is a reminder that we all have our place and need to stop and make sure that we are truly appreciating the beautiful gifts that are provided through Mother Nature.

We then made our way into town and it is such an adorable place. The people are so sweet and welcoming and the cutest shops with the best restaurants. If you are ever in the area I recommend the Oak Creek Brewery and Grill. The best onion rings with an amazing ranch concoction. Yum!!!

After we enjoyed our amazing meal, we made our way on one more adventure. I had found on things to do the Amitabha Stupa. ‐ As I have been working on my spiritual journey and staying connected with my believe and faith in God and my spirit army. We follow the trail and make our way down the trail according to the directions. Time starts to pass and it is getting darker we decide to make our way back to the car.

A little bummed that we weren’t able to find it.. then Merideth says look at those flags... and we continue to make our way back and we ended up at the Stupa! We both have yet to figure out how it happened, but it was truly magical. Taking the time to sit and be appreciative. Life is truly a gift.

After the beautiful spiritual experience and connection back to Mother Nature it is time for God’s gift.. BASEBALL!!! BWe spent our first day at Angel’s game. NI was finally able to purchase some swag and we sat and took on the sun and watched a great game of baseball. Was even able to run into my Uncle from Napa who I have not seen in a good while. Alaska and Napa meet in Tempe for the beautiful game.

After the game we made our way to Culinary Dropout, which is another must stop if you are ever in the area. So delicious!! After the fun in the sun, baseball, and a delicious meal we regrouped back at the hotel and prepared to take on the next day full of adventures.

Today, Friday, is the day that I get to see my man. Today the Padres play and I get to see my man. Little does he know he is my man, But Derrick Norris is a master at his craft. A true baseball player that plays the game the way it used to be played. Needless to say I have a minor crush on the guy. I got to share that experience not only with Merideth, but with my Honey, my Uncle Louie. Since I moved to Alaska I do not get to see him as often as I would hope, but his one liners make any night better. It was a pretty perfect evening. I was waiting for that!
